Ampicillin Description and Application

Ampicillin is less effective than most penicillins for most Gram-positive bacteria. However, it has a strong effect on most Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, Proteus, Salmonella, Haemophilus, Brucella and Pasteurella, similar to or slightly stronger than chloramphenicol and tetracycline. However, the toxic effect is less than chloramphenicol or tetracycline.
